An Edinburgh dad is paying tribute to the 'love of his life', who sadly passed away.

Darren Pease will be turning 54 on Sunday as he takes on the Edinburgh Marathon in memory of his late wife. Eileen Drummond, 'the love of his life', sadly passed away in 2016, aged 46, after being diagnosed with cancer.

Speaking to Edinburgh Live, the dad-of-three from Greenbank, said: "Eileen and I met while working together at the Royal Bank of Scotland in the late 90s and brought up three kids. She sadly died six years ago and she was the love of my life."

Darren and Eileen brought up three children together, Holly, 29, Oliver-Jack, 21, and Ella-Rose, 13.

"It took me all this time to get to the point to do something like this, the fundraiser in her memory and for the school," he said.

"She left her job in the bank after we had our first child, and got a first-class honours degree at Edinburgh University in 2007. She took on a teaching role at Tollcross and she loved it. I just want to honour that time and her."

Running was a huge part of Eileen and Darren's life through their marriage. They used to go on runs together regularly and she even took her class out for runs too.

"We used to run thousands of miles together as a couple, it's what we did. I think this is a nice thing to do for the Friends of Tollcross Primary and find some peace," he said.

"Eileen would often take her pupils running around the playground on her breaks, so it seems fitting that I choose a running theme. Running was her passion and it was great that she was able to share that with the kids in her class too."

He added: "My hope is that I can raise funds so the school can help pupils access clubs and other health and well-being activities. The school have also kindly agreed to do an annual sports award in her name."

To honour the much-loved teacher, Darren will be completing a number of runs starting with the Edinburgh Marathon on May 28, followed by a number of 10k's, a half marathon, and finishing up with the Lochness Marathon in October 2024.

Eileen is survived by Darren, Holly, Oliver-Jack and Ella-Rose. You can donate to the Elieen Drummond fundraiser here.
