Edinburgh Council's pest control team have been called in after a resident found a dead rat near a retail park in the south west of the capital.
The dead rodent was discovered outside a Costa Coffee near Edinburgh West Retail Park in Chesser last week and after being contacted by a concerned resident, the council confirmed their pest control team were already aware of the situation.
Locals also reported seeing rats in the Moat Street and Slateford Road area last week, with the council saying an active baiting programme is in progress and anyone who finds evidence of burrowing is encouraged to get in touch to report the issue.

A council pest control support assistant also asked locals to notify the team is they are aware of any communal areas in the vicinity where rats may burrow and they will be added to the active programme.
It is understood the dead rodent was found next to the retail park which currently houses the likes of Marks & Spencer, Greggs, Aldi and Home Bargains.
A spokesperson for the council confirmed to Edinburgh Live that their pest control team are aware of the issue and have an active baiting programme in progress.
Costa Coffee declined to comment and Edinburgh West Retail Park were also approached.
