Edinburgh commuters facing major delays due to broken down train on busy line

Edinburgh commuters are facing "major" delays on Friday morning due to a broken down train blocking the line.

ScotRail and Network Rail have informed passengers that the broken down train at Haymarket Station is causing considerable delays to services on Friday morning, with replacement buses being put in place.

Alerting passengers to the issue around 7:30am, ScotRail said: "NEW: A broken down train in Haymarket station is blocking one of the four platforms, causing major disruption.

"Helensburgh/Milngavie - Edinburgh trains are only going as far as Bathgate Edinburgh - Glasgow Queen St & Edinburgh - Dunblane services are running every 30 mins."

Network Rail added: "Our staff are helping teams from @LNER & @HitachiRailENG move a broken-down train from Haymarket station."

It is currently unclear how long the disruption will last, with services already affected by the yellow weather warning for heavy rain issued by the Met Office.

ScotRail informed passengers that they are using alternative bus services for stranded passengers, and are trying to hire more. They added: "We have two replacement buses running between Edinburgh Park & Bathgate, serving all stations. We're trying to get more buses, I'll let you know if we do - most hire coaches are busy with school runs."
