Edinburgh city centre road blocked after crash triggers rush hour delays

Police raced to the scene on Friday afternoon after a collision on Queen Street.

Residents witnessed police guiding traffic at the junction of Frederick Street, as they waited for a vehicle to be picked up. The condition of those involved is currently unknown.

The incident, which happened at around 3.30pm, saw traffic backed up along to North Charlotte Street until around 4.30pm.

One local resident told Edinburgh Live: "There was a car on the side of the road, the side of it looked smashed up.

"There were only two police officers there but they were guiding and controlling traffic while the recovery truck pulled up to move the car. The city centre was pretty busy with traffic."

Edinburgh Travel News tweeted at 3.30pm: "Queen Street eastbound partially blocked following an RTC at Frederick Street junction, slow traffic back to St Colme Street / North Charlotte Street.

By 4.30pm, they added: "Queen Street RTC all clear now. Vehicles have been recovered and all eastbound lanes have reopened."

Both Police Scotland and the Scottish Ambulance Service have been approached for comment on the collision.
