An Edinburgh city centre office space could be turned into a private healthcare facility if plans are approved by the council.
An area within the spacious Saltire Court, on Castle Terrace, has been earmarked by Welbeck Health Partners to transform the office space into a multi-storey specialist healthcare operation for patients to receive minimal invasive day surgery and outpatient diagnostics.
It is understood that the facilities for patients to stay overnight at the centre would not be included if the plans were granted. Welbeck Health would occupy a mix of first, ground and lower ground floor accommodation.

In a planning statement, the applicant states that the proposed demise within Saltire Court was previously occupied by an investment management company who have since acquired alternative accommodation and are set to vacate the premises.
It adds: "The Class two (Professional Service) use will allow for the operation of a leading, specialist healthcare facility for minimally-invasive day surgery and outpatient diagnostics.
"Full details of the operator/operation are detailed below. This accommodation and activity will take place over a mix of first, ground and lower ground floors. There are no physical changes to the existing unit proposed which require planning permission, albeit internal reconfiguration would take place to facilitate the new use.
"The specifics of the proposed plant are intended to be dealt with by way of an appropriately worded planning condition."
The statement continues to say how Welbeck is a leading global specialist day surgery provider, particularly in ambulatory surgery, where surgical procedures are such that they do not require patients to need an overnight hospital stay.
They add: "Primarily, Welbeck Health aims to offer a simple patient journey to assist in solving the access-to-care issue resulting from unprecedented pressure on the NHS."
