Edinburgh city centre hotel apologises as guest is 'woken up multiple times'

An Edinburgh hotel has apologised after a guest was woken up 'a number of times' while staying in the four-star establishment.

The Raddison Blu hotel situated on the buzzing Royal Mile is ranked a respectable 4.5 stars on TripAdvisor with the majority of customers rating it as excellent and very good. However, with it being in the city centre, the street outside can be busy but guests are provided with earplugs.

One guest was left disgruntled and took to the review site leaving just two stars. They added: "Some of the rooms have very poor soundproofing and coupled with some nearby pubs, it meant I was woken up multiple times.

"The hotel was not full, so I don't understand how the policy would not be to only use the rooms on the noisy side as a last resort. Earplugs were provided, a sign the hotel is aware of the issue but has failed to provide adequate soundproofing to properly address it."

The hotel quickly apologised and reassured the customer that the windows are triple glazed and ear plugs are offered to 'minimise as much noise as possible.'

The hotel responded with: "Thank you for your feedback! Please accept our apologies in regards to the external noise you experienced while staying. Unfortunately, as an Edinburgh city centre hotel, we do experience some noise from out with the hotel from time to time depending on what is going on outside.

"All our windows are triple glazed and ear plugs are provided to minimise as much noise as possible for our guests. We do hope to have the chance to welcome you back to the hotel sometime in the near future where I will personally allocate you one of our quieter rooms to ensure a good sleep. Please let us know if we can do anything else for you."

The city centre hotel is often praised for its location, cleanliness, service and value.

While one guest didn't have the best sleep, another guest rated it five stars and wrote: "Friendly welcoming service. The room was spotless with a spectacular view. Had many options for outside breakfast. Went along with staff recommendations for dining out. Overall 5 stars for almost everything."

Another praised: "Excellent stay at the Radisson, staff were very friendly and helpful especially the two concierges and the reception staff. The room was very comfortable and quiet, we ate at the Itchycoo restaurant on the last night of our stay and found it very good. Overall the hotel offered a very good experience."
