Councillor Arthur said: “A strong outdoor education ethos is at the heart of all Colinton Primary School does, so it is heart-breaking to see the impact of this mindless vandalism.
“I know many of the wee ones in the School will be upset. Since this happened on Saturday evening, teachers, parents and local residents have all been in touch with me to voice their frustration.
“I know the Police are taking the matter seriously, and I would urge anyone with information to call them on 101.”
In images of the hut shared on Twitter, holes in the wooden structure have been created on the walls as well as the door, with splintered wood littering the ground around it.
The damage means the the space is not able to be used by the children.
In a Tweet over the weekend, councillor Arthur, added that a teacher had said: “The shed was only installed in December, and the wee ones loved it"
Police Scotland said: “Officers can confirm that this has been reported to police and that enquiries are ongoing at this time.”
