This festive season, a hugely popular Scottish gin is bringing a little slice of island life to the capital. Isle of Harris Gin has announced a duo of Winter Cèilidhs in Edinburgh at the Thistle Street Bar in the New Town.
Thought to have originated in the Outer Hebrides, the traditional event simply means “a visit” in the island's native Gaelic language. And though it's now become synonymous with kilts and Highland dancing, the brand is stripping it back to its roots with a much more relaxed and informal gathering.
A spokesperson for the Hebridean gin firm said: "The Winter Cèilidh celebrates the warmth of connection at the coldest time of year, and the essential ingredients are easy, good company, good music, and of course, good drink."

To celebrate, they've announced a series of events across the country, with two winter Cèilidhs at the Thistle Street Bar. The first of which will take place on November 28 and the second on December 12, which you can learn more about on the Isle of Harris Gin website.
The Isle of Harris team said: "Gather with us as we share the spirit of our Island through the Winter cèilidh.
"In collaboration with some of the best bars in Edinburgh, Glasgow and Aberdeen, we’ll celebrate the warmth of connection with good company, good music and great spirits."
To help people who can't come to the physical events still enjoy themselves, they’ve also created a special Winter edition of our Harris Cèilidh book and packed it full of creative cocktails, seafood serves, and music to stream.
In it, you’ll find a fun 7-Step Guide to throwing your own cèilidh at home and even some seasonal Gaelic phrases to try.
Their special 12 Days of The Winter Cèilidh event will have daily online releases of much sought-after Harris Ceilidh Bottles from November 19 onwards along with local business offers and traditional island music.
They are also giving away a Silver Winter Cèilidh Ticket in one of their Isle of Harris Gin gift sets, entitling the lucky finder to travel to Harris for a real island winter cèilidh in 2023.
