An Edinburgh cat was tragically put down this week after the animal became impaled and stuck on a rusty fence pole.
Desperate attempts had been made to save the animal by both neighbours and the animal welfare charity after it was found in a communal garden on Monday, September 26.
Discovered by neightbour Marie-Claire Longden, the grey cat was seen with its leg impaled on the sharp pole, and had been left unable to free itself.

Instantly issuing an urgent plea for help, Marie-Claire had tried to comfort the animal as well as keep it warm as they waited for assistance.
Recognising the cat as local to Comely Bank Street, the Record reports that one spike had gone through its back right leg, with the SSPCA unable to save it.
Photos showed several rusty poles from a fence vertically poking out that appear to have become broken.

Marie-Claire said in a post: "Urgent: Can everyone share this photo. This cat lives near me at Comely Bank Street. It has fallen on a spike pretty badly. I am with it and SSPCA is on the way. Please can everyone share. I need to find the owner pretty urgently."
However, Marie-Claire didn't know who the owner of the pet was so shared what had happened online with the community in a desperate attempt to try and find them.
The SSPCA confirmed that the cat was rescued by an officer and taken to a vet but sadly had to be put to sleep. It's owner was also found.
