Edinburgh Castle visitors hit out at 'video featuring Prince Andrew'

Over the past year, 28 pages of complaints were lodged on Edinburgh Castle - ranging from 'boring' audiobooks to staff smoking.

The appearance of Prince Andrew in a video also came in for criticism. The castle is Historic Environment Scotland’s most popular staffed site, with 1.45million visitors last year.

Bosses said there were 89 complaints between January 2022 and February 2023. One tourist said an audiobook was 'quite frankly 'boring for an adult let alone a child.'

A visitor alleged a contractor 'was smoking on your premises'. Another was 'outraged' at seeing Prince Andrew, reports the Scottish Sun.

And an Armed Forces veteran was 'shocked' at not getting free entry. A HES spokeswoman said: “These complaints represent just 0.01 per cent of total visitors. Ongoing feedback is positive.”

In August last year, Edinburgh Castle staff were forced to respond to a recent claim a visitor was 'targeted for being half English' at the world famous landmark. The reviewer said: "It’s a long walk up, I felt targeted as I happen to be half English, however the pencil and magnet I got were very good, some attractive workers."

Historic Scotland commented on the post: "Thank you for your feedback. We are disappointed to hear that your visit to the castle did not live up to your expectations. We have forwarded your feedback to the castle team to review.

"Our team work under the premise that everyone should be treated fairly and that no one should be discriminated against because of their nationality or any other factor."
