Remitly looked over and collated sites with the most favourable comments left by visitors at a variety of sites across the UK as well as globally, the Daily Record reports.

Edinburgh comes in second in the UK to the London Eye and sixth in the world - with Top of the Rock, New York City coming in top spot.

The list was constructed in order to give tourists an understanding for the best locations to get a panoramic view of an area.

However Edinburgh was not the only Scottish location with The Necropolis in Glasgow also featuring in the UK list at position number six.

Edinburgh Castle, took the third spot for the most popular viewpoint in Europe with almost 16,900 reviews mentioning its scenic views over Auld Reekie.

In a city with so many viewpoints, such as Arthur’s Seat, the Nelson Monument and the Camera Obscura, residents of the Scottish capital are spoilt for choice when it comes to admiring the landscape

Jago McKenzie, Principal Business Manager at Remitly comments: “Whether you’ve moved somewhere new or are just visiting somewhere for the first time, getting a good view of a place can be a great way to get a feel for the location, and give that satisfying feeling that you’ve truly ‘arrived’.

"Under the hashtags for #newhome or #imoved on Instagram, we can see many photos of people looking out over a view of where they will now be calling home, so we wanted to use our research to help people no matter where they’ve moved, to find the best viewpoints close to them.

"The diversity of the findings from dense cityscapes to natural wonders just goes to show the beauty the world has to offer, and why we should continue to celebrate moving around it and experiencing new sights and sounds."
