Edinburgh Castle hits back at tourist's bogus 'anti English abuse' claim

Edinburgh Castle staff were forced to respond to a recent claim a visitor was 'targeted for being half English' at the world famous landmark.

Although the attraction generally garners favourable feedback, an unusual one out of five star rating was recently left on the TripAdvisor which described the castle as 'dodgy', while it also commented on the appearance of the staff working there.

The reviewer, who suggested they visited the landmark in July of last year, said: "It’s a long walk up, I felt targeted as I happen to be half English, however the pencil and magnet I got were very good, some attractive workers."

However, the feedback appears to be just one of a number of bizarre bogus reviews written by the user about various landmarks across Scotland.

In spite of this, the team at Edinburgh Castle felt the need to respond on TripAdvisor to say that discrimination of any form will not be tolerated at the attraction, while advising the reviewer to get in touch with their complaints team of they felt necessary.

Historic Scotland commented on the post: "Thank you for your feedback. We are disappointed to hear that your visit to the castle did not live up to your expectations. We have forwarded your feedback to the castle team to review.

"Our team work under the premise that everyone should be treated fairly and that no one should be discriminated against because of their nationality or any other factor.

"If you feel you have been treated unfairly, please send an email describing the incident to complaints@hes.scot and we will investigate it further."

From almost 52,000 reviews, Edinburgh Castle has an impressive 4.5 out of 5 star rating on the travel review site, making it the fifth best 'thing to do' in the capital.
