Edinburgh bypass crash: Police race to rush hour smash as drivers face delays

Police in Edinburgh have rushed to the City Bypass after a crash occurred during rush hour on Wednesday.

Taking place shortly before 9am, the incident has seen delays and tailbacks quickly forming on the A720.

Issuing an alert to drivers, Traffic Scotland reported at around 9.15am that the second lane of the bypass heading eastbound is now blocked.

The accident occurred just after the Gilmerton junction, with live traffic images appearing to show a two-car-crash on the inside lane, with traffic tailing back in attempts to get round it.

Police and TRISS have been called out to the scene.

An update from Traffic Scotland on twitter read: "E/B GILMERTON The A720 E/B at Gilmerton...an accident is blocking Lane Two.
