Edinburgh-bound flight declares mid-air emergency and lands in Germany

An Edinburgh -bound flight has been forced to land after declaring a mid-air emergency.

The SunExpress passenger flight was travelling from Antalya in Turkey to the capital when it made the urgent call for help.

The crew issued a 7700 squawk code signalling an onboard emergency.

Flight XQ598 had left Turkey at around 7.30 am UK time this morning and was planned to land at 1pm.

An online flight tracking software shows the plane has landed at Frankfurt Airport in Germany.

The nature of the emergency is not currently known.

The Daily Record has approached Sun Express for a comment.
