Edinburgh-born former Scotland rugby legend Scott Hastings undergoing treatment for cancer

Edinburgh-born former Scotland rugby legend Scott Hastings has revealed that he has been diagnosed with cancer.

The sporting world has rallied round the 57-year-old after he confirmed his non-Hodgkin's lymphoma diagnosis, a condition which affects the lymphatic system.

Capped 65 times for Scotland and twice a member of the British Lions, the rugby commentator revealed that he has been undergoing chemotherapy for the disease - which has left him bald.

The Daily Record reports that Hastings revealed his diagnosis to fans over the weekend, saying: "My cancer is very treatable and non-life threatening."

His wife Jenny said last night: "Every day is a gift."

Support has poured in from international rugby players alongside fans and well-wishers, some of whom have survived NHL.

Paul Wallace, former Ireland and Lions rugby player, said: "NHL does not have a chance against you Scotty. You will be fighting fit and a silver fox again in no time. Stay strong."

Scott and wife Jenny have a daughter, Kerry-Anne, a Scottish international hockey player, and son, Corey, who lives in the US.

Jenny added: "Corey and Kerry-Anne returned home in March and we were all together at the start of this chapter."

Hastings still remains Scotland's most capped centre after retiring from the sport in 1997 and touring the world to play in different tournaments as the captain for Scotland's 7s team.

As well as appearing on top sport broadcasting channels across the country he also runs Edinburgh-based sports and events business Hi Events Ltd.
