A city centre restaurant was quick to crack back at one of their customers, after they claimed the eatery had gone from ‘magic to tragic’.
The review, posted in February, claims their visit to Foundry 39 was ‘disappointing’ due to ‘grumpy staff’ and ‘tragic’ food. Despite this, staff seemed to be pretty sure the guest would be returning regardless.
Posting to TripAdvisor, the guest said that after visiting the establishment every week for years they felt things had changed. Management received the review, and quickly told them: “See you next Friday.”

The review reads: “We’ve come here for several years on Fridays and like the place, despite some very grumpy, disengaged management over the years - one would assume that hospitality training has been missed as being here 2-3 times a month over several years would gain some thanks or at least recognition.
“The pizzas have however made the unfortunate transition from magic to tragic. Gone are the lovely in house proven dough pizzas with puffy edges and in their place are pre made, probably frozen which results in a flat, dead textureless base matched in my lifetime only by the horrendous pizzas at the Heineken bar in Dubai Airport.
“Being caked in an overly thick tomato paste, rather than the passata/sauce product used previously only served to enhance the sense that the tail is wagging the dog. Shame really, I suspect the development team at Marstons and the accountants have driven this on the unit, having not tasted the product beforehand.
“Upon delivery I asked the waitress what had happened but she didn’t know. I had a couple of bites but it was like eating a cardboard box that someone had thrown up on.”
Responding quickly, the team at Foundry 39 posted: “Thank you for taking the time to review us. Sorry to hear we are so terrible at everything. See you next Friday, all the best.”
Currently sitting with a 4.5 star rating on TripAdvisor, the Queensferry Street spot seems to be popular with many other customers. A review posted just last week reads: “Me and my boyfriend came here a couple of days ago and were served by Brigitta.
“She was very friendly and gave us amazing recommendations. We had some pizzas and cocktails, and everything exceeded our expectations - I would definitely recommend it.”
Another post in February reads: “I’ve been coming here three days a week for the past two years and I absolutely love it. The staff are friendly and attentive. The food is affordable and they have a great selection of snacks as well.”
Foundry 39 has 183 ‘excellent’ reviews, and only 13 ‘terrible’. You can find out more about the west end spot here.
