A guest at an Edinburgh cocktail bar has complained about a “horrible little old man” in Leith.
The guest left a Tripadvisor review, stating that the “strange, creepy old man” ruined what was an otherwise excellent experience at the Barologist cocktail bar.
“A strange, creepy old man that is apparently ‘part of the show’ began accosting one of the staff during an incredibly busy period, right in front of my table. This man ordered the staff member to do what he said, shouting that he would ‘speak to him as he pleased’ when the man being shouted at in front of the whole bar said to treat him with some respect,” the guest recalled on the social media site.

“Upon talking to staff, we were informed this man is not involved with the running of the restaurant or bar at all and has no authority, he simply reads a spiel to tour groups,” they added.
The reviewer called it “truly disgusting” behaviour. Additionally, two women in the reviewer's group recalled the man had previously bothered them during a visit when they were on their own.
“Pathetic and [he] needs cut ASAP. Will be back for amazing staff, service and excellent cocktails,” the review concluded.
A spokesperson for the Barologist responded to the two star review online, and clarified that the “creepy old man” was an actor the pub used to play the themed character of “the barologist.”
The response from the pub continued: “Whilst this is no excuse, the actor we used to play 'The Barologist' obviously had a bad day. This does not give him carte blanche to act in this manner and we can only apologise for his very unnecessary antics. As a rule, he is normally a very civil charming gentlemen. Once again, please accept our apologies and we look forward to welcoming you back for great service & cocktails again.”
The pub is themed after George “Geordie” Armstrong who was known professionally as Ulysses G Houston - the 19th century meteorologist famed for inventing the Barometer.
The pub has an average 4 star rating on TripAdvisor and Google.
