Edinburgh Asda sees huge queues one hour after reopening from Queen's funeral

Huge queues have been seen at an Edinburgh ASDA just one hour after reopening following the funeral of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

To pay their respects to the late monarch, many major chains had made the decision to entirely or partly close on Monday, September 19, as the Queen's funeral took place.

In an announcement last week, ASDA had confirmed all of its stores would be closed until 5pm on September 19, with no online delivery slots available for the entire day.

Despite only being closed for part of the day, huge lines of shoppers were seen waiting with full baskets at the 24-hour Newhaven supermarket just an hour after the site reopened.

Images and video taken from the store at 6pm showed Edinburgh locals piling through the aisles, many with large shopping trollies.

Queues for the checkouts were also seen stretching far back into the store, as many waited in lines that stretched throughout the building.

One shopper told Edinburgh Live: "Just in case anyone was thinking of going to the 24-hour Asda - I strongly recommend not doing that, the queue for the tills stretches round the whole building.

"It's absolutely mental shops are closed for half a day and there are queues like the start of lockdown."
