Edinburgh armed police swoop on residential street as force helicopter scrambled

Concerned residents spotted armed police on a residential street in Granton earlier today.

Black-clad officers were seen with weapons on corner of Boswall Parkway and Pilton Drive North. A helicopter was seen circling the area too.

One local said they were not allowed out of their street for some time, not knowing what is going on.

The many police, armed with rifles are just a few minutes’ walk away from Granton Primary School with locals reporting the school is still being let out as normal.

One resident who lives just a few streets over said: “This is shocking, no one knows what is going on. There is so many police in riot gear and with rifles - so close to a primary school too. You don’t expect to see this happening so close to home do you?"

Another witness reported seeing six police cars and an ambulance parked nearby at Ainslee Park

The nature of the incident is currently unknown at this time.

Locals have reported seeing a man covered in blood being led down the street

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Officers are in attendance as part of an ongoing investigation and enquiries are continuing."
