Edinburgh 'armed police' respond to breaking incident in residential community

A breaking incident is underway in the North of Edinburgh with one concerned resident reporting that there is a heavy "armed police" presence in the community.

Officers have confirmed that they were called out to a disturbance at around 12:20pm on Saturday January 14 in the Pennywell Road area of the capital.

The Pilton community has allegedly seen a massive Police Scotland response with the Ferry Road end of Ferry Road Gardens, Avenue and Pennywell Road being closed to traffic as they deal with the ongoing incident.

One passerby contacted Edinburgh Live and said: “I was driving past and there were police cars everywhere and police running down from Drylaw Station.

“I also passed six cars and two vans coming along Davidson Mains and Queensferry Road all with their blue lights and sirens going off.

“I am guessing they were going to attend the same incident.”

It is not yet clear what has led to the heavy response but one resident claims to have seen "armed police" in the Pilton area.

Images sent to Edinburgh Live also show a police helicopter in the sky and police with dogs on the scene as well as several vehicles in the densely populated community.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We were called around 12.20pm on Saturday, 14 January, to a report of a disturbance in the Pennywell Road area of Edinburgh.

“Officers are in attendance and the road is currently closed at the Ferry Road end.”
