Edinburgh armed police lock down quiet street as helicopter deployed overhead

Stunned locals watched on as armed police swooped on their residential street in Kirkliston.

Multiple police vehicles were spotted in the area with armed officers roaming Wellflats Road just minutes away from the Royal Highland Centre.

It later emerged police had received a tip off that armed men were seen in the area prior to the major deployment.

An anonymous resident told Edinburgh Live that they received no information as to what was going on, and that the emergency services were in attendance for a number of hours on Wednesday, May 24.

"Officers, including armed response, attended however there was nothing ongoing at the time. A thorough search of the area was carried out but no one traced.
