Edinburgh Aldi ban school kids 'who are not accompanied by an adult' from store

An Aldi store in the south east of Edinburgh has placed a ban on schoolchildren entering the store without an adult.

The supermarket, on Gilmerton Road, confirmed schoolchildren in the area must be accompanied by an adult before being granted access to the store due to an alleged increase in antisocial behaviour.

Signs have been put up on the exterior of the building informing customers of the decision, although it is not clear how long the blanket ban will last.

The decision is understood to have been taken as the result of increased antisocial behaviour and thefts within the store during peak times during the day as staff have become under pressure to tackle such issues.

A spokesperson for the supermarket chain confirmed the decision but did not confirm the exact reasoning or how long it will last.

Concerned parents in the area have already taken issue with the decision on the grounds of children who abide by the rules and don't cause any trouble still being denied access.

Liberton High School is located just a short walk from the store, as well as several local primary schools.
