Edinburgh Airport 'very busy' as passengers warned of potential hour-long queues

Edinburgh Airport have informed passengers arriving early on Friday morning that they may face a wait of up to an hour to get through security, with queues "longer than they'd like."

The airport have started issuing regular updates throughout busy times of the day, helping passengers prepare for a potential wait upon arrival.

During recent months, early morning has become one of the busiest times for staff, with pictures emerging of people queuing outside the building to get in.

At 5am on Friday morning, June 17, they tweeted an update saying that the queue time was longer than they'd like, with passengers having frequently been asked not to arrive hours early for their flight.

The tweet read: "As of a few minutes ago the time to get through security from first joining the queue was 40-60 minutes. We are very busy, and queues are longer than we would like. It's important you have prepared for security."

They also helped out passengers by adding a link to their site that detailed some of the most common mistakes people make going through security at the airport.

Updates have started being issued on their social media channels at 5am, 9am, 1pm and 5pm, with an estimated time of how long it will take those at the back of the queue, to complete the security process.

With the summer holidays fast approaching, the busy periods are expected to continue into the summer, as locals, some of which won't have been abroad since the pandemic, get a chance to enjoy their well-earned breaks in the sun.

Passengers are being constantly reminded to arrive in time for their check-in to open, not hours before, as this could just add to the potential long queue times.
