Edinburgh Airport has changed the way it will update passengers about security queues amid travel chaos across the UK.
Airport bosses say that they are doing everything they can to ensure that queues at security are “kept to a minimum” as thousands prepare to get away over the bank holiday.
Passengers will now be updated on the length of time it takes to get through security and into the duty free section on the other side.
These updates will be provided on Edinburgh Airport’s social media channels at four different times in the day, while the website shows a 'wait time' tracker for security.
The latest update, provided at 9am this morning, said that the queue was between one and 20 minutes.
They described the queue as “flowing well” but urged customers to be prepared incase that changes over the next few hours.
Other updates will be provided at 5am, 1pm and 5pm.
Passengers have been urged to use the update as a guide only as the information “can change quickly.”
A spokesperson for Edinburgh Airport said: “We’re going to be sharing four updates on our social media channels each day, and these will go out at regular intervals when we’re expecting the airport to be busy.
“The first update will be at 0500 - specifically for those morning passengers who are up bright and early - followed by further updates at 0900, 1300 and 1700.
“The queue time posted to Facebook and Twitter will be measured from the time it takes from a person to join the back of the queue and get through security and out the other side into World Duty Free.
“This is different to the tracker which appears on our website - this measures the queue time inside the security hall once passengers have passed through the e-gate.
“It’s important to note that while the information is accurate at the time of posting, queue times can change quickly. Best use the information as a guide.”
Queues have been building at airports across the country over the past few days, as many seek for some sunshine during the bank holiday weekend.
This year will be the busiest that UK airports have seen in more than two years as millions try and catch up on missed holidays due to the Covid pandemic.
Swathes of the aviation industry have been hit by staff shortage due to workers leaving or being let go over the past two years.
