Edinburgh Airport's top-rated lounge and whether holidaymakers think it's worth the money

For those lucky enough to be flying off on holiday this year, you'll likely be preparing to pack your bags.

With the school holidays having just arrived for many, its the busiest time of the year for a family trip abroad and thousands will be expected to pour in through the doors at Edinburgh Airport in the coming weeks.

Assuming you can make it through security safely with time to spare before your flight - unless we see more repeats of the recent travel chaos - you'll no doubt want a spot to relax and soak up the prospect of a week or two in the sun.

There are of course a number of dining and drinking options throughout Edinburgh Airport - and some of them are pretty popular too.

However, should you consider splashing a bit of cash for the luxury of a lounge?

According to TripAdvisor, Edinburgh's top-rated lounge is Aspire, found airside at Gate 16

.

For £40 per adult - with cheaper prices available for seniors and children - guests will get to enjoy 'a wide variety of freshly prepared complimentary food and drinks, unlimited Wi-Fi, runway views, personal TVs, reading materials and much more!', according to the airport website.

But is it worth the money? We take a look at what those who have checked themselves into the Aspire are saying.

From over 725 reviews, the lounge has earned a creditable average rating of four stars out of five - and many people seem to have enjoyed their experience.

A recent visitor hailed it as 'an oasis in the middle of the noisy and sterile environment of the airport', adding: "the staff are all very friendly and nothing is too much trouble.

"The food is delicious and the bar is well stocked. There is also a great view out over the runway and the surrounding countryside."

A further positive review hailed it as 'Europe's best lounge' and said it had "incredibly delicious food, a fully functional bar, dozens of cold cuts, cheese and salad options, a counter with hot food with hot naan bread, chick pea curry and pumpkin soup and delicious dessert", adding the "incredible view of the runway with planes taking off and landing" was a real bonus.

And on the cost, one person said it was 'not bad for the price', commenting: "the lounge was clean but was very small and cramped compared to the No1 Lounge.

"The food quality was not bad, the fresh pancakes were a bonus. Service was great and staff were all very friendly."

However, one recent visitor claimed it wasn't worth the money and were far from impressed with the offering. Their two-star review said: "Food appeared to have been cooked a while back and then just kept warm. Rolls were very tasteless and dry. Even though it wasn’t busy, it took a while for all the used tables to be cleared of all the dirty dishes.

"You could get beer, spirits and wine included in the cost of lounge but no Prosecco, which seemed a bit strange."

Another holidaymaker echoed their views and said: "Spanish white wine tastes like vinegar. All drinks apart from Prosecco is served in large chunky classes!

"Just feels way to expensive for what’s available and not much choice unless you want alcohol!".

Yet, a couple of separate reviews hailed the lounge as the 'perfect way to start the holiday', with one person describing their visit as 'first class'.

They said: "The main thing that made the visit outstanding was the superb service by the staff we met who made us feel very welcome!

"The food was also lovely, chickpea curry with all the extras on the side was delicious!

"We are due to fly from Edinburgh again next month and we've already booked to use the lounge again. It's great value for money and the perfect way to start a holiday".
