Edinburgh Airport have said that the recent deluge of heavy rain has impacted their runway after the River Almond burst its banks.
The media team shared an image on their Twitter channel that showed Airport Operations shining a light from their 4x4 onto the water that was lying on the runway service on the evening of December 30.
They said that the extreme rainfall had led to Gogarbun experiencing their highest level at the airport and that the River Almond bursting its banks had led to water covering the runway.

Whilst ensuring the safety of all passengers, those at the airport were able to successfully keep the runway open and operational.
In a statement on their Twitter, they said: “Extremely heavy rainfall has resulted in in the Ggoarburn registering its highest ever level at the airport and the River Almond bursting its banks. That excess water has encroached onto the runway. Teams are working to remove water where they can but this is proving difficult with all parts of the waterway experiencing high saturation levels.
“Safety of passengers and staff is paramount. The runway is open and operation and we will assist partner operations where we can.
“We thank passengers for their patience and understanding and would ask them to check with their airline for any updates to their flight.”
They later added: “We’re already seeing improvements with the water receding from the runway. Flights have been departing and we’ll continue to support airline partners.
“Thank you again to passengers for their understanding and patience.”
Edinburgh and the Lothians have experienced rising water levels and floods that have caused travel chaos throughout the region.
ScotRail had announced that several rail services going to and from the capital were cancelled due to the heavy rain.
Parts of the city bypass were also closed earlier this afternoon as surface water made it unsafe for motorists to travel.
