Edinburgh Airport passengers forced to queue outside after glitch causes huge lines

A number of Edinburgh Airport passengers were forced to wait outside on Tuesday morning in an effort to drop of their bags.

Long lines of holiday makers were seen standing outside of the building from 4am as they waited to check-in their baggage with Ryanair.

Speaking to Edinburgh Live, passenger Mirjana Nilsson said the experience had been "ridiculous" after she arrived three hours early for her flight to Gran Canaria.

She said: "The bag drop in the beginning was ridiculous I came three hours before the flight and the queue went from outside to inside, where it was wound all over the place like a maze and took around an hour to get through.

"I had paid for fast track security which many others had as well but the normal queue was actually faster.'

In response to the claims, Edinburgh Airport explained that the line had been caused by Ryanair opening check-in for a number of flights at the same time, causing the unusually long line.

A spokesman for Edinburgh Airport said: "An airline handling agent opened up a number of flights at the same time for check-in this morning instead of staggering them and that resulted in a build-up of people.

"We also had two self-service check-in machines going down but they were quickly brought back online and helped to clear queues quickly."

Edinburgh Live contacted Ryanair for comment.
