Edinburgh Airport: Best time to book flights for to avoid chaos and queues

With the summer officially started, Scots around the country are preparing to jet off to soak up some much-needed sun over the next few months.

For many people, it will be their first time going on holiday outside of the UK since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic.

With so many travellers heading to the airport this summer, queues and delays are inevitable.

However, by booking your flight at a certain time of day, you may be able to avoid the worst of the crowds and chaos at Edinburgh Airport.

Speaking to the Express, an expert at The Family Vacation Guide stated: "Generally speaking, airports tend to be busiest in the mornings, with crowds tapering off throughout the day, especially before you get through security.

"Most people like to start their travels early in the day, and sometimes, depending on where you’re going, it’s necessary."

While it will vary from day-to-day, in general the best time to book a flight in order to avoid major queues is either first thing in the morning before the rush hour starts, or in the evening or night.

The former may be preferable, as late night flights are susceptible to knock-on delays caused by problems throughout the day.

You should also avoid booking your flight on certain days of the week if you're keen to avoid long queues and stress as much as possible.

Unsurprisingly, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday tend to be the busiest days to travel, as the majority of people are not at work or school.

The expert continued: "The middle of the week tends to be less busy. People like to go away for weekends, which means bigger crowds at the airport.

"It also means higher airfares so if you’re looking to score a deal, be willing to travel mid-week."

By booking your flight on a Tuesday or Wednesday, you may not only have an easier time at the airport, but you could also save yourself a lot of money too.
