Manchester City's goalkeeper, Ederson, will be sidelined for the team's final Premier League match and the upcoming FA Cup final due to a broken right eye socket. The injury occurred during a collision with Cristian Romero in City's recent 2-0 victory over Tottenham. Following the incident, Ederson underwent scans which confirmed the extent of the injury.
Despite initially continuing to play after the collision, Ederson was eventually substituted. His replacement, Stefan Ortega, made crucial saves during the match, including stops from Dejan Kulusevski and Son Heung-Min.
Manchester City officially announced that Ederson will not be able to participate in any further matches for the remainder of the 2023-24 season. The team is set to face West Ham in their last league game, where a victory is crucial to secure a historic fourth consecutive top-flight title under the management of Pep Guardiola. Subsequently, City will compete against Manchester United in the FA Cup final scheduled for May 25.
Ederson's absence from these important fixtures also means he will miss out on representing Brazil in the upcoming Copa América tournament, which is set to take place in the United States during June and July.
