Eden Hazard identifies key Real Madrid problem using Chelsea example as future looks uncertain

Real Madrid superstar Eden Hazard has apologised to fans for his underwhelming three years at the Santiago Bernabeu which has been hampered by injuries.

Hazard left Stamford Bridge in 2019 after completing an £87million move to Madrid but has since failed to impress during his time in the Spanish capital. The Belgian winger has been injured on 15 occasions for the La Liga giants missing a total of 71 matches for Madrid.

There were concerns over the 31-year-old's weight following his move from the Blues and now the 31-year-old has been linked with an exit from the Santiago Bernabeu having fallen out of favour under Carlo Ancelotti. Hazard has only featured 29 times for the Italian boss at Los Blancos, averaging only 40 minutes per appearance.

In an interview with Spanish news outlet Marca, Hazard opened up on his problems with injury and apologised to Madrid supporters after referring back to his time at Chelsea. The 31-year-old said: “Sorry. I try, but... I’m sorry.

"I have one more year and I have to prove it, but it’s not easy: I don’t play, I want to play more. I’m really sorry, I’m sorry for what happened.”

When asked what has gone wrong for him in Spain, Hazard responded: “All seasons are the same with me: during the season I have to work and play football, but when I have three weeks to rest, I rest, and I’m not going to change. This story [weight concerns] was four years ago, although it was reality, but then I did an incredible two months before the injury.

"Then I haven’t had any luck due to the confinement and many things, like many injuries in the second year. But during 10 years at Chelsea I played 500 games without injuries or anything, and then in two years, all these injuries.

"It’s something I can’t explain. Why? I have changed many things, including food. No, no, no [on having psychological help]. I am lucky that I have a family to help me with these kinds of things.

"There are much harder things in life. I play football, I’m not lucky at the moment, but it’s okay, it’s life.”
