Eden Hazard hands Chelsea £15m transfer windfall despite Real Madrid Champions League final snub

Chelsea have been handed a cash boost after Eden Hazard won the Champions League with Real Madrid.

Los Blancos defeated the Reds 1-0 as they went on to secure a surprise result against England's domestic cup double-winning side. Klopp watched in agony as Real Madrid keeper Thibaut Courtois produced a Player of the Match performance to prevent Liverpool from breaking through in Paris.

Although Hazard didn't play in the final, reports suggest that the contract he signed when he moved from Stamford Bridge to Spain has a windfall clause within it. That means that the Blues have earned an additional £15million as a result of him winning the coveted trophy, which is a welcome boost for Todd Boehly's consortium as they enter their first transfer window as the Blues' new official owners.

Hazard has spent the majority of this three years in Spain battling injury problems, having completed a move from Chelsea in 2019 for £89million. In his seven years at Stamford Bridge, the Belgian won two league titles, an FA Cup, two UEFA Europa League's and a Carabao Cup across 350 appearances. Even though Hazard has managed to win a handful of trophies during his short time in Spain, he's still commented on his future whereabouts.

“The coach knows that I still have a contract until 2024," Hazard told HLN earlier this month. "My first three seasons at Real have not gone well, so I want to show everyone what I can do. Starting with this Saturday. It has always been a dream to play for Real. It still is.”

Whether he decides to move on from the club remains to be seen, but he'll be hoping for a chance to properly showcase his talent in La Liga before that time comes.
