Let’s take a trip down memory lane and remember one of the most outrageous goals that Eden Hazard has scored in a Chelsea shirt. That’s against Arsenal, the result ending in a 3-1 win at home to the Blues in 2017.
The Belgian international scored a truly wonderful individual goal when weaving in and out of red and white shirts. CarefreeChelsea’s Anita Abayomi(AA) and Scott Clayton (SC) reminisce the goal on the same day five years ago, on Friday afternoon’s The Back Page show.
AA: “On this day (4th February) in 2017, Hazar ripped Arsenal apart. Normally I don’t celebrate the anniversaries of different goals. But, this goal was too special. Do you remember this goal?”
SC: “You can’t forget it, can you? He picked it up on the halfway line. Made then made Francis Coquelin do a tornado spin in the middle of the park then made Koscielny MC Hammer side steps one way then the next.
“It was a wonderful goal, and I would love to hear what you think about that goal because I think it’s one that we have to celebrate. It’s one of the highlights of Hazard’s career.
“I think that Tottenham one when he curled it into the top corner was up there as well. The West Ham one that I had seen a couple of days ago. The one where he slalomed his way through the defence and put it in the corner.
“But, It was just classy Hazard, wasn’t it. When Hazard was at that kind of power, and on his game, you couldn’t stop him.”
AA: He spun Coquelin like a Beyblade. Then he met him in the final third, and they were doing the tango. It was mindblowing because you’re watching the television and thinking surely not?
“Slots it into the back of the net, and the celebration not just from him but all the Chelsea players told us how beautiful that goal was. Everyone was off their seats. You can probably even see Arsenal fans looking like Woah.”
