Eddie Nketiah's Arsenal exit: Newcastle deal, Arteta transfer stance, Crystal Palace bid

We are now into the final 36 hours of the January transfer window and Arsenal are running out of time to conduct business.

The Gunners have been linked with a move for a centre-forward, with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang's future at the club uncertain whilst both Eddie Nketiah and Alexandre Lacazette are into the final six months of their contracts with the club.

Nketiah has been Mikel Arteta's third choice in the striker for the majority of the season and now football.london brings you everything we know so far about the Englishman's future at the Emirates Stadium ahead of Monday night's deadline.

Crystal Palace bid

According to Sky Sports, Crystal Palace have had a second bid for Nketiah rejected by Arsenal. The Eagles reportedly made an offer for the Hale End academy graduate earlier this month that was turned down, as well as one during the summer window

The report also claims that Bundesliga outfit Bayer Leverkusen have been following the 22-year-old and are monitoring his availability.

Newcastle agreement

Newcastle United are closing in on the signing of Nketiah, according to The Telegraph.

The piece states that the Magpies have been working on a deal for the former Leeds United loanee for some time, with head coach Eddie Howe said to be keen on the young frontman.

The Tyneside-based club are thought to be in pole position to sign the Gunners star and talks have reportedly progressed well, although there is no agreement yet as the north Londoners may need to bring in a replacement first.

Mikel Arteta stance

Arsenal boss Arteta has repeatedly reiterated that he is extremely keen to keep Nketiah at the Emirates despite the player turning down a new deal at the club.

Speaking about the situation last month, the Spaniard said: " Well, Eddie has six months left in his contract and we are having discussions with him and the agent to try to find the best possible way.

"Eddie knows how much I rate him, and I like him - and I would like him to stay at the club."

He added: "Well he’s our player, and he’s someone that we raised. He has the Arsenal DNA in is blood, and he loves the club so much.

"His reason is that he wants to play more football, and that’s a genuine reason, it’s nothing to do with anything else. He wants more minutes, and he feels he is able to contribute much more, and that’s why I like him."
