Eddie Nketiah 'given significant Thierry Henry privilege' after agreeing Arsenal contract

Arsenal have agreed on a deal to secure Eddie Nketiah's long-term future at the club, according to Fabrizio Romano.

This is certainly a surprise to the masses as a few months ago it looked increasingly likely that the 23-year-old was set to play his football elsewhere next season.

But manager Mikel Arteta has reiterated his desire to keep Nketiah and showed great faith in the player during the business end of the season, where he was handed eight starts in succession, scoring five goals in the process.

Clearly, the run of games given to Nketiah showed the faith the club have in him and rightly so as the improvements he has made in terms of all-round play over the past year, showing far more quality with the ball at his feet in deeper areas, is worth mentioning.

Whilst a new deal is something Arsenal fans will be delighted with, perhaps the news of the new number given may not be as popular.

Nketiah is reportedly set to take over the vacant number 14 jersey, which certainly is referred to as an iconic number in the club's history with it being Thierry Henry's famous shirt.

Aside from internal deals, it looks set to be a very busy summer transfer window for Arsenal, both in terms of incoming and outgoings.

The Gunners have already secured their first signing in Brazillian Marquinhos, who has penned a four-year deal at the club with the option to extend this by an additional year.

Yesterday appeared to be the most active day with regards to substantial transfer news, with the Gunners closing in on a deal to sign Porto Midfielder Fabio Vieira, football.london understands, which will be worth up to £34 million.

A deal for the Portugal U21 international however will not affect the transfer of Youri Tielemans, who remains a top priority for the north Londoners.
