Eddie Nketiah given chance to follow Jamie Carragher's advice as Arsenal refuse to budge

Arsenal striker Eddie Nketiah has already been told to leave the club by Jamie Carragher, and the Gunners' stance may result in the striker listening to his advice.

Nketiah was Arsenal's hero on Sunday as the striker scored both of their goals in a 2-1 win over Leeds. Victory means that they maintain a four point lead over north London rivals Tottenham, with just three games to in the race for top four.

Despite Nketiah's involvement towards the latter stages of the season, there has been no talk of a new contract. And with his deal expiring at the end of the current campaign, it may be time for Nketiah to look elsewhere, and take Carragher's advice.

When asked if Arsenal should try to keep Nketiah, Carragher said on Sky Sports: "Yes but I don’t think he’ll ever end up first-choice striker. I think it would be better for him to move on."

And he may have no choice as according to The Athletic, Arsenal have not indicated that striking duo Alexandre Lacazette or Nketiah will be handed new deals. Both strikers see their contract expire this summer, and will be free to sign for a new club for free.

Arsenal have begun talks with Mohamed Elneny over a new deal though, signalling that Nketiah and Lacazette have been snubbed over an extension. Arsenal have it all to do this summer, as they face starting next season without a natural no.9.

But Nketiah has scored four Premier League goals in as many games, making a late claim for a more senior role next season. And Nketiah hinted to Mikel Arteta that he is delighted being involved, and claimed that he is 'happy' in the team.

Nketiah said: "Any player just wants to be playing and get the opportunities. I’ve worked hard throughout the season to make sure that I was ready when I get my chance and credit to my team-mates for helping me play and do well.

"I’m just happy in the team and helping. It’s a great atmosphere throughout the whole season, it’s been excellent. You really feel the connection between the players and the fans, it’s amazing to be involved."

However, Arteta hinted that he could potentially be swayed, as he said: "Eddie is doing what he’s done all season, he’s been very consistent, with his performances and how little he is giving things away! Let him be, let him enjoy the moment because he completely deserves it and things will happen naturally."

Nketiah's future will be decided one way or another by the summer, and the forward did recently confess to that he has received offers for next season. He told The Beautiful Game podcast " There have been offers of a new contract but at the moment my aim is to play football and play regularly. That’s my ambition and that’s what I hope to do but at the same time I’m at Arsenal, I love Arsenal."

The striker has been linked with a move to Crystal Palace to link up with former Arsenal midfielder Patrick Viera, and he may still end up at Selhurst Park. However, wages would certainly play a part, as Arsenal are likely to offer Nketiah more than the Eagles should they change their stance.
