Eddie Jones has resigned as Australia coach in the wake of their calamitous World Cup campaign.
But the former England coach has said he wants one more job in charge of a test team before retirement.
Less than two weeks after saying he would honour his contract to lead the Wallabies until the next World Cup on home soil, the 63-year-old said he had agreed terms of his exit with Rugby Australia.
Australia exited the World Cup at the group stage after a campaign that included back-to-back losses to Fiji and Wales.
Jones had returned to Australia in January after being sacked by England last December but managed only two wins - against minnows Georgia and Portugal - in nine matches.
There were reports during the World Cup that he had been interviewed for a return as coach of Japan, which he has repeatedly denied.
Speaking to The Australian newspaper, Jones said: “[I] gave it a run. Hopefully be the catalyst for change. Sometimes you have to eat shit for others to eat caviar further down the track.”
