Eddie Jones has included six uncapped London Irish players in his squad for an England training camp in Teddington this week, with an eye on July’s three-Test series in Australia.
England are without players from Leicester, Saracens, Harlequins and Northampton this week, as they compete in Saturday’s Premiership play-offs.
That has provided Jones a chance to cast the net wider, and there are a total of 16 uncapped players in the 35-man group.
Five of those players, including the in-form Gloucester forward Freddie Clarke, receive their first call-ups to a senior England squad.
“It’s a great opportunity to learn about them [young players] and see what potential they have to play a part in the Australia tour,” said Jones.
London Irish are well represented, with backs Henry Arundell, Will Joseph, Ollie Hassell-Collins and Tom Parton included alongside forwards Will Goodrick-Clarke and Tom Pearson.
Jonny May returns after injury, while Wasps’ Dan Robson and Paolo Odogwu are back in the fold. Luke Cowan-Dickie and Anthony Watson will be with the group as they rehabilitate after injury.
England face the Barbarians at Twickenham on June 19, the day after the Premiership final, before travelling to Australia. Centres Manu Tuilagi and Henry Slade will both miss the tour through injury.
