Eddie Howe says he wants to develop Newcastle United's relationship with National League side Gateshead as part of the Magpies' longer-term plan.
Former Newcastle favourite Rob Elliot has just been appointed as technical director and is keen to strike up more of a rapport with United in terms of loan deals and partnership opportunities. The Tynesiders - managed by Toon old boy Mike Williamson - played Newcastle in a friendly game back in July and Howe's side will be looking for opponents in November and December during the World Cup.
When asked about building relations with Gateshead, Howe told Chronicle Live: "Yeah definitely they are a local club and we can definitely help each other.
"We can give them talented young players and they can help grow our players, help them develop and help them to learn how to win football matches. They can show them how important those games (National League) are at that level.
"Hopefully it is a relationship that can grow."
When appointed as new Heed supremo, Elliot said: "I want to use my experience at football clubs to put a structure in place, hopefully, try and generate the fanbase and make the club as sustainable as possible."
