Eddie Howe's warning to Newcastle United over new St James' Park tactics

Eddie Howe says that Newcastle United may have to accept teams will come to St James’ Park and park the bus.

Leeds got men behind the ball and eked out a point in soaking conditions to earn a goalless draw on New Year's Eve. But Howe feels teams will now try to shut shop more due to the Magpies’ lofty status.

Howe said: “Yes I think that's a valid point. I think Leeds have a style of playing, I don't think they've changed too much.

“We knew their threat, we knew how they would line up, it wasn't a surprise and we had our plan to break that down.”

For all that Howe felt his players coped well with Leeds’ defensive tactics.

He said: “At times we executed it well, at other times we didn't. The pleasing thing from our perspective is that the chances were there and we haven't had a shot that's caused us concern at the other end.

“If we played that game again, I'd expect us to win quite comfortably.”
