Eddie Howe has stood up Newcastle United's interest in signing Jesse Lingard - suggesting the Magpies will be in the hunt for the England winger again this summer.
Of course, the Magpies will need to survive in the Premier League first but should the Manchester United man decide to run down his contract, he could be an intriguing free transfer for Newcastle in the next window.
Newcastle spent deadline day trying to get an expensive loan deal done as Man United played hardball by demanding an astronomical loan fee.
But this has not deterred Howe, who told Chronicle Live: "Jesse Lingard is a player I have always admired.
"And that's probably the best thing to say."
Lingard may now face a series of fresh contract offers from the Red Devils as they have him in the building until the summer.
Newcastle, however, aren't giving up on the former West Ham loan star yet.
