Eddie Howe has reflected on Newcastle United’s 2-1 win over Tranmere Rovers. The narrow victory sets up a home tie against Crystal Palace after the pitch side draw at Prenton Park.
Howe’s side had to come back from behind to take the win. He said: “We're really happy to get through. We had to pick a team we felt could get through the tie off the back of a game we felt we had given everything. We had to stand up and be counted.”
Howe singled out Jamaal Lascelles for praise after the skipper scored an equaliser.

He said: "I thought our captain, Jamaal Lascelles was heroic in his defending as well. He responded like the captain he is.
“He led by example and put his body on the line. He didn't want to come off but we had to protect him at that stage.”
And looking back on the tough nature of the game, Howe said: "We had a lot of the ball so had to be creative to open them up. We didn't do that enough so that will be something we go back and review.”
