Eddie Howe has given his verdict on Newcastle United's chances in the title race after holding the Premier League leaders at the Emirates Stadium. The Magpies remain nine points behind Arsenal but still have the Gunners to play later in the season.
However, they stopped Arsenal stretching their advantage even further with a steely display. Howe kept it simple after the game and said: "The next step for us is to have a little bit more quality on the ball but we're looking to improve all aspects of our game.
"We wanted to attack the game, we wanted to be ourselves. The reality of that I don’t think we quite were, but that’s credit to Arsenal in how they played, they forced us to sit a little bit deeper than what we would normally want to.

"Sometimes you have to do that, slightly tweak the way you play to stay in the match. I felt we had to and we did, and the players deserve all the credit for coming through that test.
When asked about transfers, with the window now open for business, Howe said afterwards: "At the moment we are taking it day-by-day.
"We have a strong group of players but we will assess what we need in January. There are no intentions imminently to improve the squad but that may change. There's no race from our perspective, it's just about continuing to improve and that's our main goal."
