Newcastle United already have the scouts assigned on missions in Portugal with Benfica a regular stop off spot during each season for Toon talent spotters.
The Magpies have now been linked with the Benfica forward Goncalo Ramos who scored against them in pre-season in a 3-2 win as well as eight goals last term. Reports in Portugal now state that Newcastle could bid £25million for the star.
When asked if he was interested in any Benfica players only two weeks ago, Howe said: "I think it is a very strong and good league. Technically you could see from Benfica's style of play and the high technical style of their players in the Premier League.
"Of course, we are looking in every league to try to find the best players for Newcastle. So I wouldn't say no. We are not looking in that area right now so we will have to wait and see in the future"
When asked about specific targets with young stars like Gonçalo Ramos and Henrique Araújo impressing, Howe added: "I’d never comment on individual players, I don’t think that’s right.
"It’s disrespectful to the club that the player represents. We’ll do our business in private. There are many teams in Portugal and players we are looking at to find the best ones to make us better."
Meanwhile, Newcastle are yet to register a fresh bid for James Maddison while Anthony Gordon remains on their radar. Newcastle saw a £35million bid for the Merseysider rejected last month.
United have not commented on reports from Portugal on Goncalo Ramos while the club are getting used to constant links with Lucas Paqueta.
