Eddie Howe has already answered Cristiano Ronaldo transfer question amid Manchester United exit

With Cristiano Ronaldo's dramatic exit from Manchester United now official, many have started to wonder whether they'll see him in the Premier League again or if he'll go to another league in Europe or maybe even the MLS.

Following PIF's takeover of Newcastle United last year, almost constant questions have been put to manager Eddie Howe over the past few weeks about the possibility of the Portuguese legend being the latest addition to his squad.

Howe has done wonders with the squad he has so far this season, having lead them to a third-place position in the Premier League before the mid-season break for the World Cup - 15 places higher than where they were this time last season.

The additions of English trio Nick Pope, Kieran Trippier and Dan Burn have been instrumental to the Magpies' solid defence this campaign and with Bruno Guimaraes running the middle of the pitch, everything has looked smooth sailing for Howe's side that have lost just once this season.

That is, of course, without highlighting club record transfer Alexander Isak who has had glimpses of greatness before an injury ruled him out for a number of weeks.

However, Ronaldo won't be joining that list of players bought in during the summer - something that Howe has firmly stuck to throughout the course of the season.

Speaking in October about the possibility of him coming to St. James' Park, Howe was quick to deny the rumours and highlighted a few different reasons why.

"We’re trying to provide long-term growth, we’ve got a longer-term vision," he said. "At the moment, we have quite an ageing squad, so we probably need to invest in more young players. That’s probably a big part of our progression, really.

"We need to get the average age down, so it might not be a signing that we would necessarily look to make – but not under-estimating the quality of the player."
