Eddie Howe gives Newcastle United youngster Lucas De Bolle boost as he pushes for first-team debut

Eddie Howe says he would not hesitate to hand one of Newcastle United's emerging young stars a full debut if the upcoming fixture is appropriate.

The head coach has named teenager Lucas De Bolle on the bench four times in recent weeks and he has been a regular in senior training. The 19-year-old's range of passing was on show in the dramatic 4-3 win over West Bromwich Albion last Monday night at St James' Park.

Howe has been impressed with De Bolle's performances at Benton alongside the first-team squad and hinted that senior bow may follow. Howe told Chronicle Live: "No I would have no hesitation if I felt they were the right selection to win the game. Lucas is someone we really like and has been training with us for a long period of time.

"I have been very impressed with him technically. Watching him at the development game the other night I thought he was technically excellent. He can play various positions. "I'd say he has things to improve but I really, really do like him and I think he has a bright future in the game."

Whether De Bolle is in the squad for Spurs this weekend remains to be seen but with a clutch of home matches to follow there is scope for him to make his debut before the end of the season.
