Eddie Howe delivers Allan Saint-Maximin injury update with Newcastle star still in France

Eddie Howe still believes that Allan Saint-Maximin will play a part in the rest of Newcastle United’s season.

Saint-Maximin has not featured since the win at West Ham when he suffered a hamstring injury. The player has been in France and there have been suggestions of a grade two tear but Howe says he will be back next week.

Howe said: “We are not 100 per cent sure on Maxi. So we will wait and see.

Eddie Howe press conference LIVE: Newcastle United head coach on Spurs, injuries and Villa response

“There’s not been a setback and it’s taken a little bit longer than we hope. With hamstring injuries we have to be careful.”

When asked about Saint-Maximin being in France, Howe said: “He’s not in the country and joins us on Monday. He’s ok.”

Speaking about Miguel Almiron, Howe added: "He's an option. He's had minimal training and trained well as he does. But he had a quite a long absence so we'll wait and see."

Howe also stated there were no fresh injury concerns ahead of the clash with Spurs. He said: “Nothing off the top of my head.”

Furthermore, the boss is hoping for a big response after the Aston Villa showing. "I'm hopeful. It was an uncharacteristic performance.

"We've been so consistent. We've had certain hallmarks within the team. It was the first time that we didn't deliver those hallmarks. Maybe a good time to regroup and refocus all our energy on the games coming up."
