Newcastle manager Eddie Howe has confirmed the latest on Anthony Gordon’s injury ahead of Saturday’s trip to Premier League champions, Manchester City.
The England forward missed his side’s dramatic 3-2 win over Birmingham in the FA Cup on Saturday night due to a thigh injury sustained as Newcastle beat Arsenal 2-0 to progress into the Carabao Cup final.
Howe’s side will no doubt back themselves to claim only their second-ever win at the Etihad Stadium, with Gordon likely to be crucial to their chances.
Speaking on Friday morning, Howe said: "Anthony should be fine, he had a thigh problem but has responded well to treatment and has been training.”
Sven Botman is a doubt, although Dan Burn could be involved.
"There has been good news on the scan for Sven after his injury and it is not long-term,” he said.
“He will miss this weekend but hopefully won't miss games in the next few weeks.
"For Dan, initially, it did not look positive. He's had a scan, and it looks good; he is very close for this weekend."
