Eddie Howe calls Jurgen Klopp a 'bad loser' ahead of Liverpool clash at Newcastle

Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe says he has no issues with Jurgen Klopp being a ‘bad loser’ ahead of the clash against Liverpool.

The Reds take on Newcastle in their next Premier League clash on Saturday evening. It sees Liverpool looking to secure back-to-back victories following Monday night’s win over Everton.

Liverpool are currently in ninth place in the league table and nine points adrift of the Champions League positions. Newcastle occupy fourth spot, but the Reds do have a game in hand on their next opponents.

The previous meeting between the two teams resulted in a hostile atmosphere between the respective benches after Fabio Carvalho’s late winner in August. Howe was asked about his and Klopp’s behaviour on the touchline, and why he thought the Liverpool boss can become angry at times.

“I think you have to be a bad loser. If you’re a good loser, you’re in the wrong job,” said Howe.

Reflecting on the reverse fixture at Anfield in August, Howe states that he thinks that night helped Newcastle in the long run.

Howe said: “It may have helped us in some strange way, in that you go through that experience and you’re desperate not to feel that again.

“I don’t need any reminding of how painful losing is. I did that during my playing career and I hated that feeling.

“As a manager, it is probably 10 times worse, maybe 100 times worse. I actually detest it as a manager.”

Howe reserved praise for Klopp and his accomplishments with Liverpool. The Newcastle boss even labelled the German as one of the best managers the Premier League has seen

"What he’s done has been incredible," said Howe. "How his team has played over a consistent time is unrivalled so, to me, he’s one of the very best of all-time in the Premier League."
