Eddie Hearn reacts to sanctions being imposed on Daniel Kinahan

Eddie Hearn gave a short answer when quizzed on what he made of Daniel Kinahan being sanctioned by US authorities this week.

While speaking to Boxing Social, he was pressed on what his reaction was to the Dublin mobster being among seven cartel figures, also including his father and brother, to be named in an international collaboration to crack down on their illegal activities.

He said: "Yeah similar to your interview with Frank Smith that I saw yesterday.

"I think there's not much to say on it other than we're a huge global business that follows all regulations, guidelines and sanctions put in place and we will continue to do so.

"We'll take relevant advice. I don't think there's too much to say other than that. Frank (Smith) had that conversation with you yesterday.

"Of course follow any rules and guidelines that are put in place."

Asked if he would no longer work with Kinahan as Top Rank CEO Bob Arum has said, he replied: "The same as what I just said.

"That everything's set out in black and white in terms of what's allowed and what's not allowed.

"We will follow all guidelines put in place by whatever country, by whatever federal government, federation...whatever that may be."

Kinahan has been an influential adviser to some of Britain and Ireland's biggest boxers for years so news of this US government action taken against him has rocked the sport.

MTK Global, the promotion he co-founded in 2012 when it was known as MGM, said in a statement that he won't have any involvement with them going forward.

The company also insisted he hasn't had any involvement since leaving the promotion in 2017.

This week's dramatic news has obviously also had a serious ripple effect for leading figures in boxing stateside.

Arum has insisted he will cut all ties with Kinahan and even claimed he'd planned on doing so prior to the sanctions being imposed on the 44-year-old.

In one interview with Newstalk, he said: “I can’t deal with him in the future because of the position of my government.

He also added: "Frankly I was very surprised because I didn't know the United States was involved in that activity so it really surprised me.

"I can't talk nor can I talk about his dealing with us but when my government makes a statement like they made as a law abiding citizen of the United States I have no other alternative but to abide by their determination."
