Eddie Hearn issues 'unrealistic' verdict on Tyson Fury vs Dillian Whyte fight date

Eddie Hearn has stated that it's 'unrealistic' to expect to see Tyson Fury vs Dillian Whyte in March, issuing an update on proceedings.

The WBC has mandated Fury to defend his heavyweight belt against his fellow Brit and Fury is keen for a fight in the first quarter of the year, as he looks ahead to a potential unification bout with Oleksandr Usyk or Anthony Joshua.

However, a March fight date is now looking to be extremely unlikely and a bout could now take place in the second quarter of the year.

April is a more likely date, Hearn has stated, but the fight could be pushed back as far as May, depending on how things develop.

"People keep talking about March dates - that's starting to look unrealistic for a fight of this magnitude," he told the 5 Live Boxing Podcast.

"Either March, April, early May potentially. This is the window for the fight. Depends what happens this week. There are so many conversations going on behind the scenes right now. Something could turn at any moment."

A date for the fight remains up in the air with the two parties yet to agree on terms, with Hearn stating purse bids are set for Friday - not the Tuesday date that has been widely understood.

"You're talking about a lot of money - a difference of 25%. The normal split for any mandatory challenger is a lot more than 80/20.

"The normal split for an interim champion is up to 45%. We feel in terms of the commercial value of Dillian Whyte and the time he's had to wait, 80/20 is quite ridiculous really."

"[It] looks like Dillian Whyte will definitely get his shot at the WBC title, but we have to fight for his rights and make sure it's fair. It's not going to stand in the way of the fight."
